How to Use Dulux Avista Slip Reducing Additive Powder Coarse

How to Use Dulux Avista Slip Reducing Additive Powder Coarse

Learn how to correctly mix and apply Dulux Avista Slip Reducing Additive Powder Coarse into your floor sealer for improved slip resistance on concrete floors.

Slippery sealed floors are a serious safety hazard, whether it's a warehouse, garage, driveway, or commercial space. The Dulux Avista Slip Reducing Additive (SRA) Powder Coarse is a simple, effective solution that adds grip to your sealed concrete floors without compromising the finish of your sealer.

Here's everything you need to know about using it correctly.

What Is It?

Dulux Avista SRA Powder Coarse  is a fine white granular powder designed to be mixed into Dulux Avista sealers to increase slip resistance on floors. It's polymeric in nature, meaning it's physically compatible with sealers, it expands and contracts with the sealer rather than breaking down over time.

It works with both solvent-based and water-based sealer systems across the full Dulux Avista Sealer Range.

Key Benefits

  • Disperses readily and evenly through sealer
  • Slow to settle or float — stays suspended during application
  • Polymeric — compatible with sealer expansion and contraction
  • Increases abrasion resistance of sealers
  • Compatible with solvent and water-based systems

What You'll Need

  • Dulux Avista SRA Powder Coarse (250g pack)
  • Sealer (final coat)
  • Paddle for mixing
  • Roller and roller tray
  • Appropriate PPE (refer to SDS No. PAR009636)

Step-by-Step Application Guide

Step 1 — Apply Your Base Coats First

The SRA powder is added to the final coat of sealer only. Apply all prior coats of your chosen your sealer as per the sealer's own data sheet before proceeding.

Step 2 — Mix the Powder Into the Sealer

Pour the SRA powder slowly into the sealer while mixing continuously with a hand paddle. Take your time, rushing this step can cause clumping. Mix until the powder is evenly dispersed throughout the sealer.

Step 3 — Keep Stirring During Application

To prevent the granules from settling to the bottom of the container, stir the mixture every 2 minutes throughout the application process. This ensures an even distribution of slip resistance across the entire floor surface.

Step 4 — Apply by Roller

The sealer/SRA mixture must be roller applied from a roller tray. Do not broom apply.

  • Apply thinly at approximately 15m² per litre
  • Avoid excess SRA build-up on the edges of the roller, as this can cause roller lines in the surface
  • Roll in a consistent direction for an even finish

Coverage Rate

Apply the sealer/SRA mixture at approximately 15m² per litre to achieve the correct slip resistance profile. Applying too thickly can affect the finish and performance.

Precautions and Limitations

  • Solvent-based sealers: Do not leave the SRA powder in solvent-type sealers for more than 4 hours — extended exposure can cause the particles to swell and stick together.
  • Wear over time: Like all slip-resistant surfaces, the texture will gradually wear with foot and vehicle traffic. Periodically check the slip resistance of the floor and re-apply if needed.
  • Gloss retention: Adding SRA powder will dull the gloss of the sealer finish slightly,  this is expected and normal.

Health and Safety

Always refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS No. PAR009636) before use. Wear appropriate PPE including gloves, eye protection, and a dust mask when handling the powder.

Final Tips

  • Always do a test area first to confirm the slip resistance and finish meets your requirements before treating the full floor.
  • Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and free of contaminants before applying the final sealer coat.
  • Store unused powder in a sealed container away from moisture.
